Lil Blue Boo & Dharma Trading Design Challenge ~Entry #4~

A matching dress for lil'miss Kennadi(14 months old), I have not seen her since last July, love how this photo gives me an idea of how tall she is and how very active, I understand the kinderlocks went on cupboard doors last weekend. There is only so many times a spice rack can take being tossed, thankfully the blender was too heavy for her although she did give it a try.

Like her sister's dress, I submitted as my first entry.
A modified Sienna pattern. I used freezer paper and paper doilies for stencilling. The queen of hearts machine embroidery is from Urban Threads. I added piping at the bodice and a few appliqued hearts. To change things up a bit, I added  rows of ruffled knit at the neckline and at the ankle of the leggings.

No mystry why  this tank top found it's way to a thrift store, never been worn!






Using the hoodie pattern from Lil Blue Boo, I cut up the nasty tank and added some bold colored knits, appliqued on some heart silouettes and TA DA-  'quacked' tops for my granddaughters.

I 'heart' this project!

Ribbon, toule &  more ribbon all tied together for a  pretty valentine banner. Using   this embroidery design,( same as 'baby boy banner' )but  I stitched out the font included, on my it is so detailed and lovely!

Lil Blue Boo & Dharma Trading Design Challenge ~Entry #2~

I just love this hoodie pattern, goes together perfectly everytime!

I used the method from this pattern as the design inspiration for the layered applique. The only adjustment I made, I started with the second largest leaf, applied the next smaller one, turned over the design and trimmed close to the stitching, and then repeated for the top white leaf. (redusing the weight of the applique). I then applied the largest leaf to the top, then stitched on the top combo of 3 designs.

This hoodie reminds me of the Canadian Men's Olympic hockey jerseys. It is being sent to a 4 year old boy who is a fan. (I wonder if  he will make the same connection?!---the colour is wrong, there is no player centered in the leaf, they don't have any camo or even the hint of it....)

Baby boy banner

I just love this banner, ---a perfect thing to make for a new baby's nursery. I  selected fabrics (for me, a process involving alot of humming, staring, adjusting, choosing and re-choosing) to coordinate with the decor his mom and grandma had created. Stitched it out, came out darling. Went to join the pieces---  2 hours later, all variations of bows, ribbon and trim did not a cute little boy banner make.

So I gave up on the 'tieing' and got to 'looping'

which lead to buttons, which lead to a button on each flag, which lead to numerous buttons---

--- discovering I had attached the v & i flags on in the wrong order. (can you believe that?)

A snip and a snarl, and a fiddle with button sewing, and ta da,

now just to package up and send off.  Well almost, this was the state of my sewing room--- one small project! good grief

Lil Blue Boo & Dharma Trading Design Challenge ~Entry #1~

Before I begin , I must tell you, that creating a blog may have taken longer than the actual sewing time of this first project.
I am the 'grandma' and although I am quite familiar with computers and poking my way around the web, a blog was a brand new experience for me. (still haven't figured out how to add a comment and a photo without having to begin a 'new post' . Help is no help if you do not know the language for the question! lol)
So on to the challenge.
I used the Sienna dress pattern ,Lil Blue Boo, size 4. The bodice length was determined by the size of the embroidery, the skirt was made in 2 sections, adding  extra width to each flounce.

 'The queen of hearts' machine embroidery  is from Urban Threads (luv their edgy designs). The hearts were stencilled using freezer paper and the other design using a paper doily. A few appliqued hearts finished off the embellishments.

PS - so impressed, I got pics inserted....so much for all that time spent on help. Maybe the secret is to just get at it, cross my fingers (maybe my eyes) and hope for the best?

a lovely treat
